But now first to the tickets to Waren(Müritz):

If you want to go to Berlin by train, but your trains leave BEFORE 9 AM in Warnemünde AND ROSTOCK HBF (Hauptbahnhof = Central Station), you need a ticket to cover the time BEFORE 9 AM.

The first stop after 9 am on the way to Berlin is Waren(Müritz) - departure 9.34 am. You do not need to leave your Berlin-bound train, just stay and if the conductor asks again: show them your next ticket:

Your Länderticket Brandenburg-Berlin (Day Pass for the States of Brandenburg and Berlin) became valid AFTER 9 am.

So you need a full fare ticket to Waren(Müritz).

The best way to buy is the Internet:
http://www.bahn.de/i/view/DEU/en/index.shtml

So can do it three monthes ahead of your day of travel until 10 minutes before scheduled departure.

You only need single journey, as on your return the Länderticket Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is valid - only if your travellling alone to Berlin it's cheaper in this schedule constellation to buy a return journey.

To avoid problems with special German letters:

ä, ö, ü = ae, oe, ue
ß = ss

So your place of origin is Warnemuende.

Your destination is Waren(Mueritz).

Your date of travel: DD.MM.YYYY (!!!)

Your expected time of travel: HH:MM (24-hours-style, best 45 minutes after ship's arrival in Warnemünde)

No. of Adults. Children 6-14 are travelling free if they are on the ticket. Children 0-5 are travelling free but do not need to be shown on the tickets.

No BahnCard as you will not have any 1-year-discount-pass for your once-in-your-lifetime travel.

Travel 2nd class if you want to go the most economic way and do not need extra comfort. The difference of 1st and 2nd class is presented here:
http://heinbloed-cruiseguides.blogspot.com/2009/01/warnemunde-train-1st-class-vs-2nd-class.html

And then Search.

As there is more then one stop in Warnemünde. You got this warning. Your station's name is just

Warnemünde.

So you just confirm by click on Search.

Your connection is the first one. So you just click Purchase in the first line.

Click on Online Ticket to save the shipping costs and you can cancel without problems until the day before your date of travel.

But you need to pay with same the credit card which you need to show to the conductor.

Click on "I wish to book without logging in". You can cancel your FULL FARE ticket without penalty until the day before date of travel. So if you see on your cruise that the weather might to be good for a shore excursion to Berlin, you can just to internet and can cancel. If you cancel the same day like travel there is a penalty of 15 EUR.

Fill out as requested.

Make a print-out of the ticket and have the ticket with you. Do not forget to buy the Ländertickets which you need for the rest of the day.

For other destinations you will get seperate instructions.

And here is the way described how you find the train station from your cruise terminal:

http://heinbloed-cruiseguides.blogspot.com/2009/01/warnemunde-germany-train-station-guide.html

You can buy the tickets for Waren(Müritz) in the station building but due to limited opening hours and language skills let me explain you how to operate the ticket machines which you find after you get up the stairs and reached the station area. The Ländertickets are available here as well, but the price here is higher than in the ticket machines.

UPDATE: August 2009

Both machines have been upgraded to the newest generation which accepts cash and German Bankcards for destinations like Rostock and Bad Doberan and international credit cards for all other destinations as well:

So the new function is the acceptance of Euro-Change and Euro-Bills (max. amount vary to your individual total amount).

First touch the screen:

Then you should get the German screen like this.

(Sorry for this picture but the picture from Warnemünde could not be used so I had to take another at another station).

Touch the international flags at the bottom to change the language.

Please touch the Union Jack (British Flag) to change to English.

The blue section: Tickets and Reservation.
The grey section: Schedule information
The yellow section: Tickets for local traffic to Rostock or Bad Doberan (but only with German Bankcards)
The red section: Specials like Day Passes etc.

For a full fare ticket to Waren(Müritz) you touch the blue section:

Point of departure: Warnemünde = general setting

If you need to buy high-discounted Leisure Freizeit-Ticket from Rostock to Hamburg you must touch "Warnemünde" to change to "Rostock Hbf".

Touch "W".

For Berlin, Schwerin and Hamburg with full fare tickets you can touch immediately on the preselection in the left column.

For Lübeck you need to touch in Letter by Letter until it appears left.

Subject you get more than one station in town: "Hauptbahnhof" is Central Station.

After entering a new letter the preselection in the left column changes.

So now "Waren(Müritz)" appears. Please touch.

If you know the train itinerary just touch "Express ticket purchase".

For full fare ticket to Berlin via Schwerin (just in transit): you need to use "Ticket purchase" function as it will work out the itinerary via Schwerin and will give you the correct tickets via Schwerin.

For full fare ticket to Lübeck via Schwerin (for sightseeing stop): you need to use "Ticket purchase" fuction as it will work out the itinerary via Schwerin and you need to use the "Route, duration of stop-over" to complete calculation of ticket.

As you are going on Regional Trains to Berlin to use the advantage of the Ländertickets after you passed Waren(Müritz) you need to touch:

"Tickets RE/RB/IRE/S-Bahn Express ticket purchase"

"Tickets ICE Express ticket purchase" only for those cruisers who go on direct connection to Berlin by high speed train (Monday-Friday 6.58 am, Saturday 9.02 am).

"Tickets IC/EC Express ticket purchase" only for those cruisers who go on direct connection to Schwerin or Hamburg by long distance trains.

Without any changes you will get now as yellow marked:

"1 adult" (to be touched and adjusted if you are more than one - "1 child" to be adjusted if you have any children (6-14) with you)

"single journey" (to adjusted to "outward and return journey" if you are travelling alone in THIS special itinerary only)

"2nd class"

"no BahnCard" (you will have an annual discount pass for 57.00 EUR (limited trial period of 4 months for 25.00 EUR) to save 25% for your one-time travel..)

Now you just insert your credit card and pay. That's it.

On regional trains there is no Reservation (only for annual season tickets for Hamburg).

Only if you are going to Hamburg on Friday, Saturday or Sunday you might better have a reservation if you use the IC long-distance-trains.

Buying Day Passes for Berlin will be explained in a separate posting:
