Travel 2nd class if you want to go the most economic way and do not need extra comfort. The difference of 1st and 2nd class is presented here:
http://heinbloed-cruiseguides.blogspot.com/2009/01/warnemunde-train-1st-class-vs-2nd-class.html

And then Search.

As there is more then one stop in Warnemünde. You got this warning. Your station's name is just

Warnemünde.

For those who wants to go Schwerin and Lübeck scroll down to blue section.

So you just confirm by click on Search.

The system show you three options around 07.00 hrs:

1st and 3rd option is a one-transfer-option - more comfortable - longer journey.

2nd option: Commuter Trains (S-Bahn) to Warnemünde and Regional Trains from Rostock to Bad Kleinen with connection to Lübeck = Ticket 10 for full fare on Regional Trains

Our specimen is now for the 2nd connection with one transfer in Rostock on regional trains:

So you just click Choose return trip in the third line.

Then you have to select your return journey:

2nd option is again the longer one-transfer option.

1st and 3rd options are Regional Express options with two transfers but faster.

So select "Purchase" in the 1st or 3rd line.

The full fare price will be 45.80 EUR.

19.70 EUR as maximum price on Monday to Friday if you travel alone
18.00 EUR as maximum price on Saturday and Sunday if you travel alone

So if you see on your cruise that the weather might to be good for a shore excursion to Schwerin, you can just to internet and can cancel. If you cancel the same day like travel there is a penalty of 15 EUR.

Fill out as requested.

Make a print-out of the ticket and have the ticket with you.

For other destinations you will get seperate instructions.

And here is the way described how you find the train station from your cruise terminal:

http://heinbloed-cruiseguides.blogspot.com/2009/01/warnemunde-germany-train-station-guide.html

You can buy the tickets for Hamburg in the station building but due to limited opening hours and language skills let me explain you how to operate the ticket machines which you find after you get up the stairs and reached the station area. The Ländertickets are available here as well, but the price here is higher than in the ticket machines.

UPDATE: August 2009

Both machines have been upgraded to the newest generation which accepts cash and German Bankcards for destinations like Rostock and Bad Doberan and international credit cards for all other destinations as well:

So the new function is the acceptance of Euro-Change and Euro-Bills (max. amount vary to your individual total amount).

Tickets 14, 15 and 16 are available at this machine.

Instructions as well through this link:

http://heinbloed-cruiseguides.blogspot.com/2009/02/warnemunde-germany-warenmuritz-and.html

On regional trains there is no Reservation (only for annual season tickets for Hamburg).

Only if you are going to Hamburg on Friday, Saturday or Sunday you might better have a reservation if you use the IC long-distance-trains.

Buying Day Passes for Hamburg will be explained in a separate posting:

Subject your stay in Warnemünde is long enough you may visit Schwerin and Lübeck.

After you entered like the original ticket without stop-over in Schwerin:

you just confirm Warnemünde without any changes and ignore the warning.

via (1) "Schwerin" and the duration of your stopover (Format HH:MM)

So you just confirm by click on Search.

The system show you three options around 07.00 hrs:

1st and 3rd options: you have a IC Long-Distance-Train from Rostock to Schwerin which makes it a little more expensive but the train is faster and you get more time for Schwerin. This is very interesting if you like to have more comfort, speed and a restaurant car...

2nd option is by regional trains.

The duration is incl. stopover.

But as you want to see most of the day new sights, let's spend a little extra money and click on the first arrow in the first line to show the details of the journey:

3.20 hrs stay in Schwerin is perfect.

So you just click Choose return trip in the applicable line on the top.

I choosed the 1st option back with Regional Trains hrs for Warnemünde: "Purchase".

If you are willing to buy upto two different tickets you can go for

19.70 EUR as maximum price on Monday to Friday if you travel alone
18.00 EUR as maximum price on Saturday and Sunday if you travel alone
6.90 EUR as mamimum price on Monday to Friday if you travel in a party of 5
5.20 EUR as minimum price on Saturday and Sunday if you travel in a party of 5

Price vary due to selected train itineraries. But not this one as this includes a long-distance train.

All ticket options are shown at once. You can decide to buy more expensive tickets or special treatment in 1st class.

You can compare the special fars to the full standard fare at the bottom.

As I guess that you want to travel most economic. It's "Freizeit-Ticket". Click on "Purchase".

Click on Ticket without seat reservation - as normally this train is not very full on this section.

Click on Online Ticket to save the shipping costs and you can cancel without problems until the day before your date of travel.

But you need to pay with same the credit card which you need to show to the conductor.

Click on "I need to register for the first time and book". Then you can cancel your ticket without penalty until the day before date of travel. So if you see on your cruise that the weather might to be good for a shore excursion to Berlin, you can just to internet and can cancel. If you cancel the same day like travel there is a penalty of 15 EUR.
