Tariff information as per December 2009.

Länderticket Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
(Day Pass for the State Mecklenburg-Wester Pommerania)
also applies to
your actual location in any other state if you want to buy the day pass for the state of your actual location,
like in Kiel or Lübeck for Schleswig-Holstein
like in Berlin or Potsdam for Brandenburg-Berlin
like in Hamburg for Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Mecklenburg-Western Pommerania) or Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony)

For this ticket there are few golden rules:

1st golden rule:

On weekdays (Monday to Friday) valid from 09.00 am - On Saturday Sunday before 9 am.

2nd golden rule:

If you are travelling alone: For some states like Mecklenburg-Vorpommern you can get it as Single version

3rd golden rule:

Have always a pen with you to write down the names of your group on the ticket

4th golden rule:

Find some nice cruise-mates as the ticket is valid for 5 persons. Subject you have an XXL-family: works also for 2 adults (= parents or grandparents) with all children of the family under 14 years old (incl.), i.e. you have 10 kids but all under 14 years old (incl.) and parents can go on one ticket.

5th golden rule:

The ticket is also valid for
Lübeck and Lübeck-Travemünde in Schleswig-Holstein
Hamburg in Hamburg
Szczecin in Poland
and in all public transport in Hamburg

To avoid discussions in German with conductors who might not know the special rules.

6th golden rule:

Never buy the ticket at the ticket counters: It's more expensive.

New from April 1, 2010: you can buy it from the internet as online-ticket and make a print-out at your home's PC and printer:

Highly recommended if between ship's arrival and scheduled train departure are less than 45 minutes.

So you do not need the "fight" with other cruisers who might have not prepared as well as you did and block the machines or counter...

After reading so many rules you should be ready to buy at the machines in Warnemünde:

And here is the way described how you find the train station from your cruise terminal:

You can buy the Day Pass for the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pommerania at a higher price in the station building but due to limited opening hours and language skills let me explain you how to operate the ticket machines which you find after you get up the stairs and reached the station area.

UPDATE: August 2009

Both machines have been upgraded to the newest generation which accepts cash and German Bankcards for destinations like Rostock and Bad Doberan and international credit cards for all other destinations as well:

So the new function is the acceptance of Euro-Change and Euro-Bills (max. amount vary to your individual total amount).

First touch the screen:

Then you should get the German screen like this.

(Sorry for this picture but the picture from Warnemünde could not be used so I had to take another at another station).

Touch the international flags at the bottom to change the language.

Please touch the Union Jack (British Flag) to change to English.

The blue section: Tickets and Reservation.
The grey section: Schedule information
The yellow section: Tickets for local traffic to Rostock or Bad Doberan (but only with German Bankcards)
The red section: Specials like Day Passes etc.

For all day pass offers you touch the red section:

Now you touch: "Leisure and Special Offers"

Next: "Mecklenburg-Vorpommern-Ticket..."

and again "Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Ticket" (for groups of 2, 3, 4, 5 in 2nd class)
or "Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Ticket - Single" (if you are travelling alone in 2nd class)
or "1st class Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Ticket" (for groups of 2, 3, 4, 5 in 1st class)
or "1st class Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Ticket - Single" (if you are travelling alone in 1st class)

The difference between 1st and 2nd class is explained here:

"Freizeit Ticket Hamburg-Rostock" is something special which will be explained in the posting for Hamburg-bound tickets.

Select "today".

Most cruisers do not have their bikes with them... so select "No bike ticket"

Now you just insert your credit card and pay. That's it.

On regional trains there is no Reservation (only for annual season tickets for Hamburg).
