Willkommen in Deutschland!
Welcome to Germany!

I would say typical HAL-shore excursion

green and wet...

i. e. a lot of nature and water to see -

a short ride through a great landscape and not such a long transfer for which you will not need any arrangements for restroom breaks...

short distances to walk...

Subject you are going on a ship's shore excursion: get an impression from this part of Germany by watching the pictures...

If you are willing to drive yourself you will have a great shore excursion...

Let's start in

Eutin

green and wet...

Just to make sure: no - you are not in Copenhagen - no it's not Hans Christian Andersen's little mermaid...

Here you can start to beautiful lake cruises...

but I am going to see the castle...

or better having a drink there...

Do not worry: they kept it in an antique way... but round the corner there were the most modern restroom equipment you can find...

A very nice coffee house with great cakes... just the smell of fresh baked cakes... I wished I would not have already eaten...

and the way they keep boiled eggs warm...

True German Cola-beverage... the try to fight against Coke and Pepsi...

I loved the place...

Let's move over to...

Malente

I could not find any signposts for tourist attractions.

So I went to the tourist information and asked for their top attraction...

It's a wooden tower in the forrest and

green and wet...

But also this store...

where they smoke on the sidewalk sausages and hams...

and if you go inside... like paradise for meatlovers...

... all sealed for exportation...

... fresh and self baked bread and cakes...

... and sausage, sausage, sausage... ham, ham, ham...

The left is a sampler platter but I would order next time just the ham platter as it was great...

and on the right: Rote Grütze with Vanilla Sauce... where we had wars between Germany and Denmark as they want to fix the origin of this dessert: Danish Röde Gröde or German Rote Grütze... By the way red berries in a light jelly...

I met later a bus driver who is doing the tours for the cruise ship. Malente is only to embark or debark the lake cruise ships...

You will not have your lunch there like me if you do not drive yourself.

green and wet...

and a cow which made this part of Germany to Switzerland (= Schweiz => Holsteinische Schweiz).

This sign means you have to indicate when you start to park (next half hour beginning - so you arrive at 12.40 hrs you indicate 1.00 hrs. This indicator should be in your rental car.

... and do not forget time adjustment Standard and Daylight time...

The last place is

Plön

Before we get upwards to the palace I found on the left side in the garden this hidden treasure: a nice restaurant where you can sit outside.

Inside it was very nice.

They allow also non-restaurant-guests to use their toilets but only if you "feed" the pig (50 cent is the "normal" fare for clean toilets...):

This was a nice way to tell the people not to use too much paper to dry their hands...

We were impressed that we get treated like in a star-restaurant as we got a appetizer even it was just a slice of bread with some ham...

Our salad with pork fillet was just perfect for a hot early summer day...

The best was the bread: self made - and fresh...

So we bought one for home...

Coffee is served with a bit of cake which was just "wunderbar" (wonderful).

And that's the way they present their bill...

The major attraction is the palace of Plön but unfortunately it's an academy of a German optimetrist chain.

But they provide visits of the castle if you contact them in advance:

http://www.fielmann-akademie.com/besichtigung.php?site=207

Unfortunately their website is only in German.

Squared trees...

I did not walked into town... but the rest again green and wet...

If you do not find back your parking... that's the entrance to your car.

But you need first get to the garage which is called "Schloss" (= Palace)

Exit to "C"...

I think it was a perfect day but I rather would do it myself with the car then in a bus...

Regards,
HeinBloed
